No, Reiki is not aligned with any particular religion or religious practice. It is not a massage nor it is based on belief.
It is a spiritual practice that involves channeling energy through the practitioner's hands to promote healing and balance.
Reiki is not a cure for illnesses. However, it can promote healing and reduce the symptoms associated with illnesses by balancing the recipient's energy.
A discussion will usually take place during the Initial consultation with the Reiki Practitioner. The Reiki Practitioner will describe the session to the client, give the client an opportunity to discuss any particular problems or issues they are experiencing and ask them what they are hoping to achieve from their session.
The client will be invited to lie down on a comfortable treatment couch but will not be asked to remove any clothing except for their shoes, where you will also be covered with a blanket. Reiki can be performed with the client sitting comfortably in a chair as well. Reiki will go through clothing, blankets, or even a plaster cast if necessary!
The client will be invited to close their eyes and begin to relax into the experience. There will be soothing music playing softly in the background to enhance the experience.
The Reiki treatment can either be hands-on, where the Reiki Practitioner will apply a light touch during the session, or hands-off where they will hold their hands slightly above your body. If the client prefers not to be touched, they can indicate this to the Practitioner before they begin.
The Reiki treatment will then proceed with the Reiki Practitioner moving through specific standard Reiki hand positions. A recipient of Reiki might feel a warming sensation or a tingling during the session or nothing at all but sheer relaxation.
People typically leave a Reiki therapy session feeling refreshed, sometimes they notice feeling more tired than usual. This is not viewed as an adverse reaction, but rather as the body's natural healing response.
People commonly report a sense of calm and mental clarity and sleeping well after Reiki.
No two sessions are ever the same, as the healing energy will work with the individual in exactly the way they need in that moment.
Reiki is intelligent in nature and will always support the client to let go of whatever no longer serves them and align them back into their heart’s truth & knowing.
How this occurs will always be different so it is best to let go of any expectations and have an open curiosity about what may, or may not occur and experience it.
After any energetic healing you will go through a period of integration and adjustment as you process the changes that have been activated within you. It is not uncommon to experience physical, emotional or mental changes.
It might be possible and normal to experience one or more of the following:
Usually any of these symptoms last between 1 – 2 days and will ease. Obviously if you are concerned with anything you notice after a Reiki treatment get in contact with your Reiki Practitioner.
It varies from person to person. Healing is a process and everyone heals at the right time for them. Acute problems generally heal faster than chronic ones and if your problem is of long standing it may require regular treatments over a longer period of time.
The Reiki Practitioner may suggest a number of treatments; however, you are ultimately responsible for your own health and well-being. Some people have a few treatments to begin with and then visit periodically to maintain a feeling of relaxation and inner balance.
Reiki Practitioners are not trained to diagnose and will not offer any diagnosis or prognosis.
After discussing the client´s medical history and before commencing the treatment, the Practitioner may suggest you visit your GP as they are the only people qualified to make a diagnosis.
The initial Reiki Therapy consultation will last up to 90 minutes (assessment and treatment) and any further treatments will normally last up to 60 minutes.
